Errant Panegyrists

Someone who writes or utters panegyrics. An encomiast.

"Panegyrists, Errant Knights!

That whitewash one as grim'd as Nero,

and make him shine abroad--an hero."

William H. Ireland, Scribbleomania; or the printer's devil's polichronicon, a poem (1815).

  1. And what do we call the opposite? That is, journalists who begrime and vilify a political figure, particularly abroad? As The Economist does with Berlusconi? I am no fan of Silvio, but The Economist has disappointed me in its reporting on Italy.
